Review

****Harlequin (UK) Limited through NetGalley gave me a copy of this book for my honest review****
Imogen is a traveling nurse, a free spirit when she is ready to leave she just packs up and goes, she hides the fact that what she is really doing is running away from her past. The only friend she stays close to is Amanda and when she needs her help Imogen comes running, she volunteers to takes Amanda’s place working on the medical bus. Wyatt is the doctor Imogen is supposed to be working with, he has his own past that he is trying to get over and their first meeting is less than good. With Imogen pushing for the job Wyatt gives in and the physical lust between the two of them starts its own set of complications. Can these two scarred people get over their pasts, work together and maybe have a future? This is one of my first medical romance books and I liked it a lot. I originally thought that there was going to be to a lot of medical lingo in the book, that was not the case and I was really happy about that because I would have been lost. I personally was not a fan of the names Imogen and Wyatt, but I did like the characters. Imogen came across as an upbeat strong happy woman with a take charge attitude. Wyatt was a good doctor he just had problems connecting to people. This was a quick read, there were more than a few moments of angst throughout the book that were generously balanced out with humor, hope and some hot sex. This was a good book whether you like medical romances or not.

First I wanted to thank the lovely(and ever busy) Moms for hosting me at my very first stop on my very first blog tour of my very first book! It’s fitting my first published book is set in Appalachia, where I grew up and currently reside. I certainly had plenty of material, and loved incorporating local landmarks and culture into this book. I wanted to acquaint you with one landmark—well I call it that though if you find it on your own, you’re probably going to be quite lost in the woods. It is a real place. Strange, but real. Book Inspiration I -- The Forest Graveyard By the time I was in high school, we'd lived in more than one forest--which was good because we needed new ground to cover. A couple miles into the woods from where I now live, way up in the hills, is something I've never stumbled upon in the middle of any other woods: a very small and old(for the area) graveyard. It’s not unusual for a multitude of small family plots to dot the landscape in the rural county where I live, but they’re generally in accessible(ish) areas. But the one that inspired the Beauchamp family graveyard is far into the woods. There appears to be no trail or road to get there, and the climb is so steep I can't imagine how they got the dead up there to bury them. It's one of those climbs where you pull yourself up by using the trunks of trees growing out from the hill as if they were limbs on a tree. I've not been up there for years(seriously, that climb is awful, steep and so slippery), but it's the sort of find that makes an impression on you. It's easy to go right back there in my mind. Six graves, all from the Chaffin family(founding settlers in the area). They're close together and protected by a three foot high(and nearly two foot thick) white hewn-stone wall. Between erosion, years of autumn leaves, and moss, what's carved on the markers is hard to read. You can make out the a few names and a couple dates(late 1700s/early 1800s), but most of it is lost and no one will climb over that wall to take a rubbing. Aside from the location and the wall, what makes this small graveyard so large in my memory are the trees. I'm used to modern, well-tended cemeteries, but no one tended these graves. Trees surround the wall, normal-looking trees, but they also grow inside it. And the trees that grow from the center of those graves are impressive. Hardy. Thick. Big, well-fed trees. That probably sounds pretty creepy, and I know I come to the situation with a lifetime of love for these wooded hills, but to me it's a beautiful place. I see those trees as an affirmation of life. A massive tree grew from the only grave I was ever able to make out the full name, Sara Chaffin, who died very young and around 1800. I always thought of the tree as Sara, not Sara's Tree, just Sara... because some part of her still lives through this towering sycamore. Excerpt Imogen ate the first half of her sandwich and let herself study him. “Amanda said the white block thing was a graveyard. “Why were you two talking about that?” Danger. Wyatt’s voice was too quiet. Too level. “Because you hardly give any information when I ask you questions.” Imogen garbled her way through peanut-butter throat, reconsidering the other half of her sticky sandwich. “And you never wonder why that is?” He shook his head, half snorting at her. “I don’t need to wonder, I know why. You don’t want to talk about anything. I get it. Really. I don’t want to know, but somehow I can’t stop asking. I blame whatever instincts made me become a nurse.” “You’re back to wanting to heal me.” He looked over the trees he’d harvested, but not at her. He studiously avoided looking at her. “No. Not really. Comfort, maybe. Understand, for sure. But I’m pretty sure no one can heal you but you.” Imogen rewrapped the other half of the sandwich and set it back on the basket. “So wise.” “You make it hard to like you.” “But you keep trying.” He did look at her then with eyes blacker than the soil she’d spent an hour sliding around in to make it to his side, and she couldn’t read them. Nothing past one simple imperative: Stay Away. “I keep getting these snippets of information.” And peeks at different Wyatts. She needed help sorting them out. “And everyone keeps telling me to take care of you. Plus, you have a mystery graveyard in the woods, which, by the way, is not at all serial-killer-like of you.” The bit about people telling her to take care of him sharpened his gaze, but he shifted past it to say, “It’s old. If the person who started it was a serial killer, they lived and died in the seventeen hundreds, and are probably buried up there.” Apparently the graveyard was easier to talk about than him needing to be taken care of.

Kitty Thomas

Author Bio
Kitty Thomas writes dark literary erotica that explores power dynamics and sexuality. This work is fiction and meant for an adult audience. The author does not endorse or condone any of the behavior carried out by characters in her stories.
Her work is not “erotic romance”. Often on some level it is about love and/or obsession. Often the couple in some way ends up “together”, but the work should not be expected to follow the conventions of any type of genre romance, erotic or otherwise. If you are looking for genre romance (erotic or otherwise), please read a different author. Erotic romance is “more explicit romance”. This is something different.
Inspiration for Kitty’s work comes from many sources including Story of O, Nine and a Half Weeks, and the work of Claudia D. Christian.

 1. Your books are very thought provoking and I am sure they make many people look at themselves and ask many personal internal questions, I know they did for me. Do you ever still shock yourself at the things you write?
It depends on what day you ask me. Some days I look at my work and think: "OMG that's so tame." And other days I can't believe some of the things I wrote. Anything with "pleasures" in the title, and I go a little bit crazy, apparently. Though, Big Sky is another one where sometimes I'm like "Yeah, that's no big deal" and other days I'm like, "OMG I'm a freak." LOL It's a really weird feeling your work sitting out in the world because the way you feel about it when you write it is going to be different than how you feel about it when you first publish it and then later after it's been out in
the world for awhile. It's a little bit naked. But it's the job. However, I don't write anything with the "intent" to shock. And that's always something that makes writing the next book more difficult because sometimes I feel like there is this "shock bar" I have to reach. And that's just not why I write. I'm trying to share something through fiction and it's just not about shocking you or freaking you out. If that happens, okay. But it's not the goal or why I write. So sometimes when I write something VERY tame like Awakening... it just isn't received as well. But I LOVE that one.
I don't mean this in a negative way at all just curious.
I didn't take it negatively! :)

 2. When I read Comfort Food, my heart was pounding in my chest the whole time, shocked and exhilarated I found myself reading bits out to my husband, just to see if he reacted the same or whether it was just me. I ended up totally in love with Master. Do you have a partner that
you read  things out too? Are they supportive of your writing style and themes?
Comfort Food is what started all this. I just had this drive to write this book and it was so dark and so emotionally painful to write, and after I'd written it I wasn't sure I could even bring myself to share it with anybody let alone publish it. But I had a friend and beta reader who is a psychologist and she read it and found it fascinating and was like "You HAVE to release this." (It was so funny because while she was reading I was all paranoid she thought I was a total weirdo... and so I kept IMing her and she was like SHUT UP I AM READING! LOL.)
And then M (that would be my husband) read it and thought it was amazing. It was actually the first full-length work of mine he ever read. He liked Master. He would. LOL.

3. Will we ever get a story for the friend from Tender Mercies?
I actually never considered that. Do you mean her friend Lainey, or Asher's friend that he sent Grace to?
After finishing the story I really wanted more for him.
Oh, duh, Kitty... read two lines down and you get your answer. It's like magic! I actually never thought about writing a story for him. Now you've got me thinking. Maybe it'll happen. Generally my books are stand alones because I feel like once a story is done, it's DONE. And a lot of stuff is meant to be left a certain way because of what I'm trying to say in that particular book. But I'm not opposed to writing books about side characters. Like, for example, I have plans for a book for Brian (the trainer nobody likes) from Guilty Pleasures. Trust me, I will make you love him.

 4. What is your favourite book couple in your collection? I loved Grace and Asher from Tender Mercies.
All of them. LOL. But it's really almost that bad because I pick one and then I'm like no... what about... Grace and Asher are definitely a favorite. As well as Leo and Faith from Mafia Captive.
I also have a really special love for Juliette (I'm PRETTY sure that's the spelling I used for her name.) and Christian in The Last Girl. Christian is one of those characters that embodies the phrase: "sympathy for the devil". Because I know how desperately he doesn't want to be a monster and how he doesn't want to break his toys.

 5. When I think of dark erotica your name is the one that pops in my mind.Who is your favourite author in this category?
hmmm I really like CJ Roberts and Skye Warren. And I'm sure I'm leaving someone out.

 6. Which of your books has had the biggest reponse from your readers?  Negative or positive and why do you think?
Comfort Food has by far been the biggest reader response and the most passionate. For a LONG time I felt like every book I wrote lived in the shadow of Comfort Food, and it's difficult trying to write a new book when you know everybody is going to compare it to the first thing you released. Particularly when you're ready to move on! I'm not sure what it is about Comfort Food. Maybe it's so
emotionally raw. There were things in my personal life that influenced the book, not in any kind of literal way... but the emotion there. And I think it really comes through on the page as
something very visceral and honest. And I think that's what people are responding to.
So when I write a book, I don't try to "write it like Comfort Food", but I try to get as close to that raw honesty as possible. If a book scares me or is hard for me to write emotionally I know it'll do well with readers.

Emily Vargas has been taken captive. As part of his conditioning methods, her captor refuses to speak to her, knowing how much she craves human contact. He's far too beautiful to be a monster. Combined with his lack of violence toward her, this has her walking a fine line at the edge of sanity. Told in the first person from Emily's perspective, Comfort Food explores what happens when all expectations of pleasure and pain are turned upside down, as whips become comfort and chicken soup becomes punishment. Six years ago strangers broke into Juliette’s house; she was home alone and only thirteen. She kept her eyes closed, praying that if she didn’t see anything, she wouldn’t be killed. No one harmed her. In fact, one of the thieves protected her. Now Juliette’s dreams are haunted by him. Christian has waited to take her, resisting the urge each night. It always ends badly with human pets. They’re too fragile. The longer he can wait, the better, because the moment he takes her, the clock on her life starts ticking down. Then she’ll be gone forever. Faith Jacobson was in the wrong place at the wrong time. After witnessing a mob hit, she’s only moments from death when Angelo Raspallo decides to give his brother an unlikely gift. Leo has avoided involvement with the family business, but it doesn't make him a saint. He’s troubled and ashamed by his darker sexual desires, one of which is to own a slave. But when his brother throws Faith at his feet, repainting the scenario to make Leo the hero rescuing her from certain death, his moral fortitude will be tested. If Faith were kinky, it would be easy to live out his fantasy, but she’s not—not even a little bit. Even the mildest spanking sparks terror in her that Leo can’t bear. The gift soon becomes a burden as he fights with himself over how to handle the addition to his home. He could release her, but his brother doesn't do loose ends. The only thing keeping her out of the bottom of the harbor is Leo’s mercy. She’s like a beautiful piece of art he keeps in a glass case but can never touch. Is possessing her enough? Author’s Note: Mafia Captive has more of a love theme than many other Kitty titles, though the work is still quite psychologically dark. Readers may also notice a “new adult” flavor as Faith is just out of college and trying to find her place in the world when she is thrust into Leo’s life and home.

Belle Walker lives in a strict society where women are treated as property, sold to the highest bidder soon after their eighteenth birthday. But the auction isn’t the only danger. Though she’s never seen them, she knows monsters live outside the city. These creatures have allowed the humans a small area to inhabit with the promise to leave them in peace as long as they never cross the boundary. On the day Belle is sold, one of the monsters breaks that promise and enters the city, intent on having her as his own. **This book is intended for an adult audience and contains master/slave, multiple partners, girl on girl, alien sex, and oral play.**

Veronica Cason lives in a small apartment with no clear view of the sky. It’s uncertain which might crush her first: her debt or the buildings squeezed in so tight that they surround her like ominous sentinels. She can’t breathe in the city. Her success is a lie, and her debt is coming to collect her—unless someone else gets there first. When a stranger offers her a job at a ranch, it feels like salvation, but it could also mean her death if his motives aren’t pure. Which door has the tiger behind it? The claustrophobia of the city or ranch life under an open sky?

Review

****This book was part of a blog tour I was given an ARC copy for my honest review****
Danica has always been the responsible one; she is a therapist and part of the big sister program. She doesn't have or make time for anything else, her life is boring. Blake has no real responsibilities beyond his business with his best friend; he has indiscriminate sex with any and every woman who wants him. The two of them meet at a coffee shop when Blake accidentally elbows Danica in the face; while her nose is bleeding Blake is checking out the hot chick who offers a napkin and Danica gets pissy with him. After that encounter the two of them start seeing things in their lives differently, when Blake’s best friend dies he realizes he needs to go to therapy. He goes to Danica, the two of them want each other but with Blakes anger and promiscuity issues and Danica dealing with her Little sister and biological sisters problems neither one of them may be ready or able to make things work. The synopsis of this book had me interested right away the whole forbidden love between a therapist and patient. At first I wasn't sure how the author was going to pull it off without it leaning towards creepy or weird, but the way she set it up and the interactions between Blake and Danica kept it from straying into that taking advantage territory. One of my favorite things about this book is that it had a few different sub plots in it, it wasn't just about Blake and Danicas romance and yet at the same time everything seemed to come back to the two of them. Melissa has created some great characters that are easy to relate to because they do have flaws, they are not perfect or untouchable you fall in love with them and want to fix all their problems. I can't wait to see what happens with these characters throughout the rest of the series.

Accidental Cowgirl

In her Loveswept debut, Maggie McGinnis tells the tale of a city girl who’s running on fumes—and the cowboy who shows her all the good things she’s been missing. After being betrayed by her con man ex-fiancé, Kyla Bennett nurses a broken heart. But Kyla's friends have other ideas and when they whisk her off to Whisper Creek, a dude ranch staffed by cowboys so hot they dim the Montana sunset, all Kyla wants to do is hide under a quilt. Then in rides Decker Driscoll. He’s hauling about as much emotional baggage as Kyla, but when he stands close by, both of them want to stay close—and begin to succumb to an undeniable attraction. After experiencing personal tragedy, Decker never thought he’d see Big Sky country again. But now that his family's Whisper Creek property is in deep with a Vegas gambler, Decker’s back for the summer—and spending all his time running from “cowgirls” who come to the dude ranch to score some dudes. Then he meets Kyla, a kindred spirit who brings on a stampede of protective feelings . . . and a powerful hankering to sear her with a new brand of love.

Review

****Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept through Netgalley provided me with a copy for my honest review****
Kyla just wants to be alone so she can wallow in her guilt and deal with her broken heart, her friends are having none of that. As good friends do they have come up with the perfect place to get away and have some fun, a dude ranch with hot cowboys on staff. On the way there Kyla gets a less than stellar welcome and meets Decker. After his father dies Decker comes back to his families ranch to help out, he left a long time ago after a family tragedy now he is trying to pay back his fathers gambling debts or they will lose the ranch. The two of them have both have their share of hang ups, but they can't fight the physical attraction they feel. Can they get over their issues and take a chance on love? Accidental Cowgirl is a cute love story, the things that Kyla and her friends do and the situations they get themselves into add a bit of humor to the story. Kyla had a lot of emotional problems she was a bottle of nerves and hang ups, but in this story it worked. Decker was a good man, even though he bugged the ever lovin crap out of me at times because he was just plain mean to Kyla, I figured he was doing it because he cared about her and couldn't handle it. I did have a few problems with the wording and phrases in the book, a few of the times things would come across as awkward or to formal and I felt like it broke up the easy flow that was going. There aren't any explicit sex scenes, there is some heavy petting then it fades to black. Overall it's a good enjoyable read, I'd be interested in seeing other characters from this book get their own stories.

What’s in a Name?
Thanks so much for hosting me today! I’m thrilled to be here! One of the best parts of writing a book is getting to name your characters. However, it can also be one of the worst parts of writing a book because you feel so much pressure to get it just right. The name has to suit the character, it’s gotta be pronounceable, and you have to be aware of pop culture and world events so you don’t inadvertently give your hero the same name as the guy who just had his mug shot on the national news. However, though it’s difficult, I’ll freely admit I’m quite skilled choosing the most perfect, absolutely flawless names for all of my characters before I start. They’re exquisite, actually. But then I change my mind. A lot. My hero and heroine usually own their names right from the start, but my poor secondary characters suffer through an endless search-and-replace game every single time. In Accidental Cowgirl, my heroine Kyla is named after a super-sweet gal who helped care for our twins (and my sanity!) when they were teeny. She’s smart, funny, and has a voice that could slay even Simon Cowell. Kyla’s friend Jess is named after a favorite former student (Yep, I said it. We do have them!), but the rest of the character names have no basis in my reality. Place names are another game entirely. I spent more hours than I should admit googling Montana town names, rivers, and mountains as I tried to name the town and ranch in Accidental Cowgirl. I even looked up flowers and trees native to Montana, hoping something would trigger the perfect name. Pages (and weeks!) of scrawled notes later, my daughter leaned over to her sister one day and whispered something that made her giggle. I loved the secrecy, the innocence, the smile engendered by that little whisper. And bingo! Whisper Creek was born. How about you? Do you have a favorite town name? One you’ve driven through that’s really unique or made you laugh?

Review

****The author provided me with an ARC copy of this book for my honest review****
If you have not read Live For You book 1 in this series, I would suggest reading it first so your not lost.
What was on its way to happily ever after for Rae (Violet) and Cole is no longer a fairy tale, the two of them are have problems. When Cole sees Rae as a stuck up princess and doesn't want to be a charity case for her anymore, they fall apart. Now with Rae on tour with Jaxon and Callie things are worse than ever, but Rae wants Cole. Can she get him back; while secrets and lies come out can the two of them put everything aside to follow their hearts? This is the second book in the series and it's just as good if not better than the first one. There is drama, angst, hope, love and steamy sex!! I liked Rae in the first book, in this one I grew to respect her and see what a strong person she was. I was frustrated with Cole in this book, I wanted to smack him a couple times even though I knew why he was doing the things he was doing it still aggravated me. Jaxon oh Jaxon, he is not what he seems I love him and I can't wait for his story, he deserves his own HEA. Callie is a manipulative bitch; I couldn't find any redeeming qualities in her. Bliss intrigued me; she is a mystery with her blend of strength and vulnerability I want to know more. This book is not a sit down and relax read, it's a edge of your seat need a glass of wine frantically reading at midnight so you can find out what happens kind of book. I loved it, Marquita Valentine is a must read and the Boys of the South series is addicting.
